A Top End Adventure for the Whole Family

Photos by Mel Brautigam

With the dry season fast approaching, thereโ€™s no better time to pack up the kids and explore our spectacular Top End backyard! Join us as we take a closer look at the Katherine Region, where waterfalls, natural hot springs, bush walks, and towering sandstone escarpments create the ultimate family adventure between May and September.

Soak & Relax: Katherine Hot Springs

Just five minutes from Katherineโ€™s town centre, the Katherine Hot Springs is a must-visit. These crystal-clear thermal pools, shaded by native vegetation, provide the perfect spot to unwind. The springs are typically closed during the Wet Season but usually reopen by April each year. After your swim, grab a bite to eat at the Pop Rocket Cafรฉ, a cute shipping container cafรฉ near the car park and parklands-ideal for a relaxed family breakfast or lunch.

Paddle Through Nitmiluk National Park

Canoeing the Katherine Gorge in Nitmiluk National Park is an unforgettable way to experience the regionโ€™s breathtaking landscapes. A half-day self-guided canoe adventure is perfect for families with kids aged 6 and up.

Pack a light picnic, plenty of water, and your bathers for a refreshing dip.

Important note: Children aged 6โ€“12 must share a double canoe with an adult. The canoeing season is short and depends on weather and river conditions. It usually runs from mid-to-late June to late September – so plan ahead!
