If the walls of 38 East Point Road could talk, they’d tell some ripper yarns. As luck would have it, the walls can talk, and this is what they have to say… The dark bricks tell a story of a time gone by – the decadent ‘80s – when the home was built. The granite feature wall of the entrance speaks of Mount Bundy, on the Adelaide River, where the stone was mined. And the solid concrete pillars whisper a reassurance when the winds pick up, “Don’t worry, she’s not going anywhere. She was built to last.”

It was this – the rich history of 38 East Point Road – that attracted Leah and Tim to the home when it came up for sale in 2021. “We bought it sight unseen,” explains Tim, who was living in Victoria at the time and had never been to Darwin before. “We drove up in two cars and arrived in Darwin at seven o’clock at night. I pulled up into the double driveway and thought, ‘Woah, this is so much better than I even anticipated.’ It was amazing and surpassed all of our expectations.”

If you had to describe the property in a word, it would be ‘impressive’. Everything about the architecturally designed, four-bed, three-bath home is grand. There’s the spectacular slate staircase that curves up to the first and second floors, the expansive master suite with its spa tub and louvred windows, and the vast balcony with views of the nature reserve and glimpses of water. “There’s so much space to breathe,” says Leah, who starts her day with a cuppa on the balcony and ends it in the same spot watching the sunset.

“We get the most beautiful coastal breeze and look out onto our palms, and the parkland where the magpie geese come in the wet season.”
The magpie geese know a good location when they find one. The very best of Darwin is in walking distance from this home; Mary’s laksa from Parap markets, an ice-cold beer at Trailer Boat Club and the picturesque views of East Point. “There’s so much to see and do, but there’s nothing better than coming home. It’s such a beautiful property, and we’ve had the best experience here,” says Tim. “They don’t build houses like this now. This place will still be standing in 100 years’ time, and it will tell a story of its own.”
The walls of 38 East Point Road can talk, and they’re ready to start their next chapter.
