LUXURY TERRITORY HOMES

Inside the showstopping – and traffic halting – Nightcliff property on the market

Words by Alley Pascoe | Photos by Anne Oliver + Charlie Bliss

There are a handful of houses in Darwin that make you double take.
This is one of them: 12 Aralia Street in Nightcliff. Driving down the street, you can’t help but slow down and marvel at the magnificent piece of architecture. “We often have cars stopping or looping back to look at the house,” says owner Dan, who built the house in 2019 designed by the esteemed team at troppo architects and landscaped by Marissa Fontes. “everything I dreamed it to be, it is. The function of the house is brilliant, the open-living design is perfect for entertaining and the attention to detail is next level; there’s nothing like it in Darwin.”

This is a house shaped by the Nightcliff sea breeze. The Troppo architects used a meter to capture the direction of the wind, which informed the design for the roof pitches, vaulted ceilings, and louvres. Everything about the four-bedroom, three-bathroom home is elevated. The finishes – imported lighting, handcrafted italian tiles and japanese shoji doors – are luxe. The alfresco deck – overlooking the pristine pool and native-plant-filled garden – is a masterpiece. And the address – in Nightcliff’s golden circle, steps away from the foreshore – is prestigious.

“The Nightcliff community is amazing and it’s such a special area, so close to sunset park and the jetty,” says Dan of the slice of paradise. “it honestly feels like living in a tropical resort.”

Since the Harding Team ‘For Sale’ sign went up outside the property, even more cars have been slowing down to admire the house and its unique barestone cement sheet exterior. “The interest has been super strong. Our first open home was one of the highest we’ve had in the area,” says agent Andrew Harding. “It’s the feel – the modern, tropical, luxury – of the house that draws you in.”

“I’m really proud of the house and the specialised touches,” says Dan, who admits he watched a lot of grand designs during the build. “Whoever buys the place is going to enjoy living in it.”

*EDIT: 12 Aralia Street, Nightcliff is currently under offer. If you are interested in this property or others, please get in contact with Andrew Harding at Ray White Darwin.
