Sarah Noonan has always loved reading, but she craved more than just turning pages – she longed for a space where stories sparked conversation, where book lovers became friends and where community was just as important as the books themselves.
Introducing Book Besties Darwin – a new book club built on deep discussions, a genuine connection, and a shared love of literature (with a side of margaritas, if you choose)
Q&A by Danielle Andreoli

How often do you meet; What can readers expect when they come along to book club?
We meet at a different location at the end of every month. In typical NT style – it’s casual and everyone is really welcoming.
There are so many amazing books out there, how do you select which books to read each month?
I want to spark conversation and push people out of their comfort zones of what they would typically pick out for themselves at the bookstore. I know people can sometimes be a bit scared of the fantasy genre, so our next book is fantasy. It’s important that we choose books from diverse authors and ensure that we are supporting writers from all backgrounds!

Do you have a favourite place to shop for books in Darwin?
The Bookshop Darwin is my go-to, as the staff are really helpful. The team are super supportive of Book Besties and will offer a discount if you mention your buying as part of the book club. One of my favourite shelves is the ‘Staff Picks’ shelf. I have found so many gems there.
We know it’s still in the early stages, but have you had any surprising or memorable moments in the club?
The first book club felt special because this is something I have been thinking about doing for over a year. It was great that there was so many people flying solo, it felt so special to have built this community of likeminded people. That’s been the absolute highlight.
