$20,000 Won in Just Two Days of the Million Dollar Fish Competition!

The Northern Territory’s world-renowned Million Dollar Fish competition kicked off its 10th season this week, and within just two days, two local anglers have already landed an impressive $20,000 in prizes!

One of the first lucky anglers to strike it rich is Bing Quan Mo, also known as Ken. After fishing in Territory waters for over 20 years, Ken landed a $10,000 barramundi on the very first day of the competition. Initially disappointed with the fish’s modest 61cm size, Ken was excited when he discovered the coveted red tag while preparing to clean his catch at home. “I have been fishing for a long time and registered every year. I have never caught a red-tagged barra,” he said.

The excitement didn’t stop there. On October 2nd, Theo Vrondos reeled in a remarkable 76cm red-tagged barramundi at Daly River. Though not typically a barra fisherman, Theo was persuaded by his brother-in-law to sign up and give it a try. “After work, we went to the Daly River crossing for a quick flick before dinner,” he explained. “I was looking for live bait, and my brother-in-law told me to stop messing around and gave me a lure to start casting.” Theo’s decision paid off, and he couldn’t believe his luck: “I can’t believe it; my wife was in shock because we’ve never won anything in my life. It was hard to sleep last night!”

Both Ken and Theo are already dreaming of how to spend their winnings. Ken expressed his excitement about the possibility of visiting his 90-year-old mother in China, stating, “This barra will be the best tasting fish.” Meanwhile, Theo looks forward to taking his wife and boys on a well-deserved family holiday.
