A celebration of excellence unfolded on the State Square lawns in August as over 550 guests gathered outside NT Parliament House for the highly anticipated Hospitality NT ALM Gold Plate Awards. This yearβs event was more than just a gathering; it was a night to recognise the resilience and achievements of the Northern Territoryβs hospitality sector.

The evening marked the conclusion of eight intense weeks of anonymous judging across 24 award categories, including Barista, Chef, and Bartender of the Year competitions. The spotlight shone brightly on industry stars like Tricia Wong from Besser Kitchen & Brew Bar, awarded Barista of the Year, Declan Coffey from Hanky Panky Lounge, crowned Bartender of the Year, and Chef of the Year Pablo Stuardo from Bar Kokomo. These remarkable talents have consistently raised the bar, setting new standards across the Territoryβs culinary scene.
Service excellence remains the foundation of hospitality, and this year, Matilda McCarthy from Willing Distillery took home the prestigious Service Excellence Gold Plate Award.

The top honour of the evening, Restaurant of the Year, was awarded to Ella by Minoli β a first for Darwinβs popular dining destination. Known for its Sri Lankan-inspired cuisine, Ella by Minoli also won Best Standalone Restaurant and Best Asian Restaurant, showcasing the creativity and dedication of Minoli De Silva and her team.Β
βElla by Minoli has been a standout this year, regularly booked out and offering an exceptional dining experience,β noted former Hospitality NT CEO, Alex Bruce.
Local produce continues to play a vital role in NTβs culinary landscape, with Snapper Rocks receiving the City of Darwin Local Produce Champion Award for the second consecutive year. Snapper Rocks also claimed the Gold Plate for Best Seafood Restaurant, thanks to its dedication to fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
Among the newcomers, Pink Chopstix at Darwin Waterfront was awarded Best New Establishment, a testament to the dynamic growth of NTβs hospitality scene.
Reflecting on the night, Alex Bruce acknowledged the challenges the industry has faced. βWhile the evening was a well-deserved celebration, we also recognise the hard work and resilience of our cafes and restaurants. Their passion is unmatched.β
The Gold Plate Awards highlighted not only the immense talent within NTβs hospitality industry but also the communityβs support for a thriving local dining culture. With this yearβs winners leading the way, NTβs culinary future looks brighter than ever.
