Shop Local, Shop Darwin City

WORDS BY MOLLY UPSTILL, GENERAL MANAGER OF THE RETAILERS ASSOCIATION

Unveiling the CBD’s Hidden Gems

Splash Swim & Resortwear, Knuckey Street, Darwin City.

You don’t need to go online to shop when you live in Darwin. Read that again. You don’t need to go online to shop when you live in Darwin.

Our CBD truly has it all, and you can grab lunch and a great coffee while you’re at it. In fact, it is so easy to spend an entire day in our CBD and pick up whatever you need while you’re at it. Let’s say you needed an outfit for date night, something new and fresh to really make you feel good.

Stomp Shoes which has just relocated to a beautiful new store opposite Raintree Park, is almost spilling out the front door with shoes. (and fashion) From top of the range brands like Alias Mae and Siren, owner Gella Catis spends hours searching for the perfect shoes, clothes and accessories and carefully picks the ones most suitable for Darwin’s year-round hot weather. After 18 years on Knuckey Street, Gella recently moved shops – just a few doors down, so pop in and check it out.

Once you’ve found the perfect shoes, pop across the road to Pink Hill on Knuckey Street. The boutique, owned by Silvija Majetic, is one of not many high end fashion boutiques in Darwin, stocking a carefully curated range of fashion garments and accessories from leading designers from across the globe. With brands like Camilla and Alemais, you’re sure to walk out with something just right for your date night or special occasion.

Jewellery? Never fear, there’s a stack of shops around the city selling earrings and other jewels but if you make your way to Lulu and Daw in the Star Village, you’ll find a huge range of Australian and Territory-made earrings and accessories for any occasion.

If you’re looking for corporate or casual wear, Attitude for Men has it all, with a beautiful selection of women’s wear upstairs and menswear downstairs. Need some homewares or something fresh for your home, head to SeKada Lifestyle Co a bit further down on Smith Street, or if you have something requiring black tie, don’t hesitate to go past Bread Boutique, also on Smith Street.

So next time you have an event, need a new pair of swimmers (hello Splash!), a special piece of jewellery (Paspaley, anyone?) or even just a bunch of flowers (looking at you, Magnolia), don’t look past our CBD. It’s the gem of our city, and our retailers work extremely hard to ensure their products are exactly what consumers are looking for.
