Inside Job

WORDS BY ALLEY PASCOE I PHOTOS BY CHARLIE BLISS

The Amari Home and Styling team are “bringing beautiful to Darwin”.

In the words of the late and great Iris Apfel: “No amount of money can buy you style. It’s just instinctive.” Style is something you’re born with, and Lauren Ryan was born with it. The owner of Amari Home and Styling has an eye for beauty, and she’s sharing her natural talents with the Territory.

If you’ve gone to a property inspection and clocked the stunning timber dining table or complimented your friend’s new blush-pink, corduroy couch, you’ve probably already come in contact with Lauren’s work.

The team at Amari do property styling and staging for home owners, sellers and Airbnb hosts. They also share their knowledge – and good taste – with customers at their retail showroom in Winnellie.

“It’s such a joy to be able to welcome people into our beautiful space where they can touch, feel and sit on our pieces, and imagine them in their own homes,” says Lauren, who has been the owner and operator of Amari since 2019.

The retail space – at 13 Swan Crescent, Winnellie – came about after Lauren was asked the same question over and over again after styling open homes: ‘Does the furniture come with the house?’ Now, people walk into the showroom and ask: ‘Can we have one of everything?’

The store is a sensory feast. There’s beauty everywhere you look; from statement pieces of art, to solid acacia wood sideboards from Spanish brand Kave Home, and luxurious Eadie Lifestyle cushions designed in Australia and made in India. Lauren and her team hand pick every piece in the Amari showroom, and they do so with a guiding mission of “bringing beautiful to Darwin.”

“We may be way up here in the Top End, but we can live beautifully too with our own Territory vibe,” says Lauren, who describes her personal style as modern contemporary. “I love mixing the old with the new, having different textures and tones, and an Earthy colour palette.”

March marked the one-year anniversary of the Amari showroom opening, and it really is just the beginning. There are new pieces, suppliers and surprises on the way – with the same reliable service and expert knowledge. “It’s all about finding the pieces that make a house a home,” says Lauren.

“Your home is your sanctuary and your haven, and you should love the things in it.”
